North Coast Underground/ Riding Soundwaves
North Coast Underground is reggae, soul, and hip hop educated by the old school, conscious music for the new school.
NORTH COAST UNDERGROUND… The voice of the woods AND the streets. NCU met in a natural, artistic environment/ ex 60’s hippie commune on Northern California’s “Lost Coast” of Mendocino (4 hours NORTH of San Francisco) called Pt. Arena (pop. 400). For years they played shows as a six piece band with a Sublime-esque style with a touch more hip hop. Camo in effect as the world spirals out of control with war and environmental pollution, yet things don’t physically change much in small town Mendocino. Avid surfers and snowboarders, they are favorites of numerous industry tastemakers, filmmakers, and athletes. They have played such events as the U.S. Open of Surfing (2X) , Boardstock, The Pro Wakeboard Tour, 2 Vans Triple Crowns of Snowboarding, X Games (summer and winter) and film premiere’s such as Teton Gravity Research’s Tangerine Dream Premiere party, Matchstick Productions” Push” and Rip Curl’s Freakshow premiere. Add shows with Talib Kweli, Black Eyed Peas, Swollen Members, Planet Asia, MC Supernatural, and festivals such as Reggae on the River and Earthdance. The movement continues on with a lot on the agenda and on the mind. Real times, real issues, real problems, they may not have all the answers, but they have a lot to say and it’s not about the “bling.”
